It's been 15 years since Byron Spice said goodbye to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and hello to CMU's School of Computer Science. And it's (already?) time for yet another goodbye. On March 2, Byron will begin his well-earned retirement. While we in SCS mourn the loss of our favorite news guy, we're also filled with happiness for him and his wife, Nancy, as they embark on this exciting new adventure.
Byron's career took him from Fort Wayne to Albuquerque before it brought him to Pittsburgh, and he's met more people — and robots — than we can even imagine. COVID-19 put a damper on any plans we might have made for a big soiree, so we need your help to mark this mega milestone.
Here's your challenge: Leave us a comment below. It can be your favorite Byron story, a fond memory or simply your best wishes. We'll take these sentiments and compile them into a book (complete with photos!) that he can either cherish forever, or merely dust from time to time.
In SCS, we like to say that Byron is "the only Spice we need." Without him, CMU will certainly have a little less flavor.
Not sure you want to share your sentiments here, or have a photo you'd like to submit? No worries! Email us instead.
