Smallcraft Notes

General Notes

(1) With the exception of the Mk26 Skyhawk and the model number RMN Mk30, all smallcraft names and model designations are the product of my copious miscellaneous reference files and warped mind. For each Service, I have used a particular naming scheme, which I may reveal at some later date. Anyone who wishes to guess the scheme for a particular Service is welcome to send me their guesses by e-mail. Successful guessers will be credited in whichever Version of the List I decide to reveal all.

(2) Maximum Acceleration Rates listed here for impeller-drive craft (everything except cutters unless otherwise noted) assume operation at 100% of rated impeller capacity. Normal max accel rates are 10-20% lower than the listed maximum.

(3) Cargo craft (LK or Y codes) can only achieve max accel when “running light” – full crew and fuel tanks, and maximum rated passengers, but no cargo. Max Accel with full cargo load is half of the rated figure.

(4) Until such time as we have additional information from the Source of All (Honorversal) Wisdom (or I get the time and inspiraton to do so), I assume that the smallcraft listed above as “Under Construction” are fundamentally similar to the nearest GSN/RMN/HBY equivalents, with the following exceptions:

Mass will be 10-25% greater than the GSN/RMN/HBY equivalent, but dimensions will be within 5% of the equivalent’s mass.

Maximum acceleration (as of 1900 PD) for latest-generation impeller-drive smallcraft other than GSN/RMN/HBY vessels (which use latest-generation ICs and Beta-Squared impellers) is as follows:

Up to 1,000 tons 400 G

1,000 – 2,500 tons 375 G

2,501– 5,000 tons 350 G

5,001 tons and up 375 G

(I know that looks backward: I assume that smallcraft up to 5,000 tons use “smallcraft” impellers/compensators and power plants and those from 5,000 tons up use “LAC” nodes, ICs, and power plants, which have higher power ratings – and fuel consumption.)

Armament Notes — General

These notes apply to all armed smallcraft. Additional Armament Notes applicable to specific craft will be included in their descriptions.

(1) Turret Mounts may be Dorsal (top) or Ventral (belly)-mounted in the Forward, Midships, or Aft position (DF/D/DA or VF/V/VA). Unless otherwise stated, all weapons in a specific turret location are mounted in a single turret. Barbette mounts may be Forward (F), Aft (A), or Port or Starboard in the Forward, Midships or Aft position (PF/P/PA or SF/S/SA). Unless otherwise specified, barbettes are single-weapon mounts with 120-degree fire arcs.

(2) Pylons are un-plumbed underwing attachments for missiles/missile pods and free-fall ordnance. They may be mounted under the fixed or movable portions of the wings. All pylon ordnance is fixed-forward (chase) firing.

(3) Hardpoints are plumbed underwing or underbelly attachments for auxiliary fuel tanks and EW/ECM/ECCM pods. They may also be used for the same sorts of ordnance as may be carried on underwing pylons. Underwing hardpoints are mounted under the fixed portions of the wings only. All hardpoint ordnance is fixed-forward (chase) firing.
