(1) Two birds on a Santa Barbara beach -- a juvenile California gull and an adult Heerman's gull -- saw one peanut. One won.

(2) A seabird -- a juvenile California gull calmly waits for food while the sea comes a-knockin'.

(3) I wouldn't have guessed that gulls such as this great black-backed gull would eat peanuts, but they do. Peanuts: the nearly universal food. ;)

(4) Seen at the National Aviary, this red-eyed fellow seemed used to the attention.
