Mac Speech: Scripting
Scripting
- Voice-controlled Finder AppleScript resource, set up by Dave Miller at Stanford. A collection of AppleScripts for making some common Finder tasks speakable.
-
ScriptWeb
is a good place to start for scripting on the Macintosh. It's pretty easy to take advantage of Apple's speech technology with any of the major scripting languages for the Mac.
- MacPerl, which enough good things can't be said about. MacPerl is a truly useful tool for scripting on the Macintosh. It is quite useful for pre-processing text to be synthesized.
MacPerl, as of 5.1.3, supports Text-To-Speech and Speech Recognition on the macintosh from within Perl using calls very similar tothe ones described in Inside Macintosh: Sound.
Matthias Neeracher is online and quite responsive to feedback (Murr on IRC).
- Python has, among the demo scripts for the Mac version, a script to
speak he entire dialog of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, using all the voices in your system! a tip o' the hat to Joe Strout for that tidbit. Note: it appears to be broken in this release :( because of stdwin.
