GM Driver Information Interface Design (06/00~present)
Challenge Create a demonstrational prototype of the "car of the future" to illustrate new interface and interaction paradigms for an in-car information system. Sponsor: GM
Process Create the scenario. The Characters:
The Dean family -- John, 43, Susan, 40, Jacob, 16, Anne, 10, and Haley, 5
The following are the sketches I have created for scenario.

<dad in office> Susan is not there by the time she specified, so John logs in to the car's home page to check Susan's status. He sees that she is running errands and that traffic will make her about ten minutes late.
While he is waiting, he books a hotel for the evening and uploads the information to the car's home page so they can access it later.

<family in car> The Deans are ready to depart, and when they start driving, the car informs them, "your right rear passenger door is ajar."
The car informs them, "You have 10.2 gallons of gas, your destination is 870 miles, you will need to drive for 9 hours and 10 minutes and refuel twice."

<inside of car> During the trip, Susan needs to finish some work she left at the office.
She docks her laptop into the back of the front passenger seat and connects to her office network.Anne uses the in-car computer to continue a multiplayer game with her friend Amy. Their family is driving to see their grandmother today.

Susan is able to monitor what Anne is doing through a small pop-up window on her screen.

<dashboard> The car negotiates the music selection, acting as a virtual DJ based on its knowledge of the variety of music preferences. The family can change selections and settings by the use of gaze, a remote control, or a device on the steering wheel of the car.

<shot of scenery at night> While John drives, he sees driving directions projected unobtrusively on the windshield.
As night falls, the car begins to make automatic night driving adjustments. The windshield adjusts automatically to compensate for glare. Soon, the car senses John is getting fatigued by his gaze and blinking rate. It recommends that he take a break or switch drivers.

<stopping for the night> A few hours later, they reach the hotel where they have reservations for the night. They post a note for Susan's mother with a greeting and contact information, and they see that she has left a note in turn saying hello.

Solution This project is still on going. Come soon!
