0. CI
(Contextual Inquiry) data collection
Participated
to conduct the contextual inquiry
for about 3 months(14 first time home buyers and 2 realtors, 2
brokers) to collect the data and consolidated the models for
each CI, and came up the design idea, using Java to implement
the on line home buying system. (The sketch below I drew is to
design the buyer-centered interface of GIS on line buying
system, and tried to translate the research results and CI
findings into the system.)
 This
is my sketch which was shown the interface design during
the initial design phase.
I. Preliminary Work
a. Outline/ Storyboard entire online process
b. Gather general criteria selection info from CI
data
c. Semiology & info visualization research
II. Focus on Criteria Selection Step:
a. Card Sorting
b. Paper Prototype------------> Implement
c. Java Prototype
III. Focus on Area
Selection
- Incorporate Director
prototype into part II
IV. Focus on Map
Interpretation
a. Paper Prototype------------>Implement
b. Director Prototype
V. Composite
- Implement and test JAVA prototype

Solution
|
Iterative design:
-(Cycle): Design. Implement.Test
Design and prototype
the handheld device based on GPS, and develop the
"GIS" specific on line real estate buying system,
meanwhile conduct user testing to support and give
recommendation for the design and prototype.
Tools: Java, Photoshop 5.0,
Illustrator 8.0, Director 7.0
