To: Ganeth Starfire
Sub-Leader (External Operations)

I trust that the last few months have been good to you and your companions. The complications surrounding our clan have resolved themselves, and once again we fly high without an enemy in sight. I regret that your initiation was marred by the secrecy necessary for our success, but we shall make amends in a grand celebration that would have made old Auramkil proud.

Despite our enemies' efforts, I have succeeded in doing significant spell research in the intervening time, and as Sub-Leader, you will be given the opportunity to enjoy some of the fruits of my labor. Extensive field tests have shown that my Umbrella spells not only fill a gap in existing wizard magics, but also complement the fighter/mage arsenal perfectly. Our philosophy has never been to stand back and blast like the human evokers (nor shoot like our wood elven cousins) but rather to enhance ourselves through magic to supernatural proportions and take the fight to the enemy. Corellan uses his bow only on those who turn and run --- did he not blind Gruumsh with his star-forged longsword even while his foe struck ineffectual blows that glanced off his magical protections?

I know that you feel guilty about not having been able to contribute to the glory of the clan over the past year or so. Ganeth, do not be so hard upon yourself, for our association is life-long, and you shall have ample time to repay these debts. Even though you have not been at headquarters, your name has already strengthened our clan, as no doubt the Nirduk name has given you hope and courage in times of need. Now that your membership is no longer secret, you may wear our colors with pride and display our insignia to the world, friends and foes alike. I have already sent letters to other clans, with whom I have recently re-established contact, and they expressed jealousy and surprise at the confluence of our great lines.

Your exploits have made their way back to me, and I would like you to extend my heartiest congratulations to our allies, the Grey Elves as well as the other less famous members of your team. In fact, in honor of your success, Sub-Leader Kalis Bluestar has added a small portrait of the Champion of Good to our collection of paintings. Our entire Clan is behind you when your team goes to do good in our name, and your deeds deserve more than verbal appreciation.

Therefore, it is my great pleasure to invite you to relieve Kalis Bluestar as Sub-Leader in charge of Headquarters Operations. Kalis has served well, but the Nirduk Clan needs a strong presence at Headquarters now that I shall be resuming full-time adventuring. Kalis could do with more experience as an adventurer, for a Nirduk Sub-Leader is expected to be competent in the relevant fields of adventuring, research, leadership and diplomacy. You have already demonstrated exceptional talent in the adventuring area, and will benefit from a chance to develop yourself in these other areas. However, since your team needs a strong Fighter/Mage, Kalis can take your place. A rotation of six-month duty between field and HQ should suit both of you well, and should enhance the overall strength our Clan. In particular, I expect the other Clans to show a presence in the coming year, and I would like to groom you in the important task of representing our interests to the High-Elven community at large.

Over the next three months, there are some tasks that you should address. The first is priests. Our Clan in the old days used to employ human priests. Since you have contacts among Good priests, it would be desirable if you could bring some suitable priests back to the HQ. Our terms, naturally will be quite generous, and commensurate with their level. It would be ideal if the priest could cast spells from the following spheres: Healing, Necromancy, Guards & Wards, Protection, Divination, Summoning and Plant. The priest(s) would help you strengthen the static defenses of our HQ, and also provide healing etc. The second task is to establish a more formal alliance with the Grey Elves. You are ideally placed to bring this about, since you have a long association with them. It would be best if this alliance were declared somewhat publicly, to enhance the image of Elven Solidarity. I leave the latter task entirely upto you, since you know the best way to deal with their rather unusual representatives. The final task is to begin recruiting more members into the Clan. This period of relative quiet is the ideal time to expand, and you should keep an eye out for promising young High Elves that you meet on your travels.

As Sub-Leader, you should also be more involved in policy decisions, so I would like you to consider the following points and address them in your reply.

  1. You have noticed, no doubt, the revival of the Silverton School of Magic. Do you believe that we should become members of this organization, and if so how many members do we need?
  2. Banzeel shows signs of becoming a Free City, and if we want to establish a presence there, now is the right time. Do you support an Eastern involvement at this stage?
  3. The West has an excellent library at Lord Rogtubbins' Keep as you well know. I am a Lifemember and support their intellectual pursuits. Recently they have expressed an interest in archaeological expeditions, specifically to investigate ancient Elven ruins in the Auramkil area (pre-dating our Clan). They are looking for financial support, and also considering taking along with them a member of the Clan. Do you think we should invest in our heritage, and if so, who do you nominate for this mission?
I look forward to hearing from you in the near future. Ekali shall make regular stops at the Temple so that your reply can be relayed to me promptly.

May Corellan guide you through the darkness.
