Auramkil
Once upon a time, the coast city of Auramkil ruled an empire extending
to the Banditlands in the
west, to the mountains bordering
the desert in the north, and to Kormuth in the east. But the Empire
grew corrupt and complacent, and it crumbled: the Western Keeplands became largely
autonomous, the city of Silverton gained its independence
after a brief war in AK 577, and
the frontier towns to the north
and east were left to their own devices. The remains of Auramkil's
power base collapsed in AK 579 when mage magic disappeared; the high
elves fled to the southern
continent, most of the local religions collapsed with the rest of
the Empire, and the Keeplands (now generally known simply as the West)
expanded southward toward the mountains surrounding Auramkil (though
some of this territory may have been lost later on). Evil humanoids
prospered in the mountains and surrounding hills, and Auramkil was cut
off from its satellite villages and fortresses. We don't know much
about the city during the following dozen years, though Whitemoon
suspects that part of the conspiracy to shadow the plane was based
there. Auramkil currently appears to be approaching political and
economic stability under its new ruler, Queen Henazeen. With the
decimation of the Keeplands and the cracking of Marakeel, we'll soon see if anyone
there is dreaming of another empire.
