Distributed Quake III Arena using Colyseus

To demonstrate Colyseus, we have also setup a live system running a distributed version of Quake III Arena on a small number of machines in our local network. This is a pre-cursor to our soon-to-happen full-scale distributed deployment of Colyseus. (Note that the servers may be offline sometimes when we test upgrades.)

Status

You can connect to any one of the online servers with a vanilla Quake III client to join the on going game. You will need a Quake III client -- any client will do, however, we recommend ioquake3. The client should automatically download the map after connecting to the server.

Miscellany

Note: to connect to server x.x.x.x:

  • On Windows or Linux, run the Quake III client, enter the console by typing ~ (tilde), and then type: connect x.x.x.x
  • On Mac OS X, run the client and in the "Use as default command line parameters" field, type: +connect x.x.x.x

Note: The names of the bots are of the form: server_num:port_id|Bot_{local_botid}
