| Notes | This class is designed for anti-piracy
convoy escort duties in sectors away from the primary battle zones. It is
not designed to fight stand-up battles against pirates or commerce raiders,
but rather to intervene between approaching threats and the ship or convoy
to which it is assigned, in order to deter attacks or permit the target vessel(s)
time to flee. The data shown above represent the performance of the first flotilla of Stingrays built, constructed by the Harrington Yards at Blackbird (Yeltsin's Star VIII-A) using the most current generation of GSN/RMN inertial compensator and impeller drive node technologies. Most units of this class will be built at smaller yards in the less-developed Alliance systems, using older-technology compensators and nodes reclaimed from DDs and CLs as they are refit to current standards. These ships will have maximum acceleration ratings of 527-540G in normal space and 5,078-5,214G in hyper-space. The Stingray class relies very heavily on advanced automation to reduce crew burden, thus permitting it to carry less than half the normal complement of a warship of its mass. The crew complement shown above is at full capacity; normal operating crew is 75 (8 officers, 67 Warrant/Enlisted), with the additional berthing capacity available for those ships performing the Stingray's secondary function as a high-speed armed courier. Ships on courier duty carry either a GSN M30VT Fox Executive Transport or RMN Mk27 Skywarrior Inspection Pinnace in place of the F4 Buccaneer. |
