Designer/Creator K. Harron/M. Caffrey for RMN Admiralty Military Assistance Program
Notes RMN Bellerophon-class DN-grade sidewall generator mounted for “bow wall” projection. Sidewalls equivalent to RMN Star Knight-class CL.
This class is designed primarily as a system-defense craft to be deployed from orbital or deep-space facilities for “rapid response force” strikes at incoming enemy forces. There are two proposed tactical patterns for this craft’s use: long-range attacks from Merlin Groups or Wings armed with the Mk42 VLR moving at just below detection acceleration and firing from optimum “full power” range, and the “slash-through” attack where Merlin squadrons armed with Mk27 SD-grade shipkillers approach to long attack range at maximum acceleration on converging courses, then turn to pass through the enemy formation at an angle, firing the shipkillers as they reach middle attack range amd flipping to keep their bow walls toward incoming fire.
Both tactics are intended for squadrons operating from fixed or semi-fixed fortifications and supported by Aerie class YGLLs, pre-positioned during the attack to meet the Merlins after a firing run to reload the missile tubes and recharge the graser capacitors as needed.
