| Notes | This class is designed specifically for
the anti-LAC role in the wake of the RMN introduction of Type 3 PCLs with
their ability to significantly damage Ships of the Wall. Its primary weapon
is the ALAC MIWM, which uses a standard DD-grade missile body to convey two
small laser warheads into attack range, where they will (hopefully) bracket
the target and inflict damage from both sides simultaneously. The standard
shipkillers are used primarily in the chase tubes, with a large proportion
of standard nukes in the magazines to be used in clearing minefields and/or
enemy missile pods with “proximity” kills. The Courser is also fitted with a “towed sensor pod” deployed from astern on tractors. This pod is equipped with a long tail studded with additional passive receiver arrays. With the pod array deployed, the ship’s sensor capability is roughly equivalent to that of a PN 14M-ton Liberty-class orbital fortress. The planned tactical doctrine for this device involves deploying a Courser flotilla as a Very Large Array at the point where a PN task force emerges from hyper in order to gain more detailed information about target systems as the main attacking force moves in-system. In the close escort role, the Courser also carries a 25% larger complement of recon drones than is standard for PN DDs in order to increase the probability of detecting LAC forces and/or minefields which may be prepositioned and lying doggo in the path of the task force. |
