Young squirrel

(36) A squirrel takes refuge in a tree. Its small size and very thin fur (especially in the tail) suggest to me that it's quite young.

Squirrel painting

(37) This would be 'Fruit Still Life with Squirrel', painted in 1616 by the Flemish painter Frans Snyders. It can be found in the Boston Museum of Fine Art.

Squirrel looking

(38) A grey squirrel turns to look at me.

Squirrel with grass

(39) Note the pile of grass blades in front of this squirrel. Prior to spotting and approaching me, she was carrying it in her mouth, presumably for building or improving her nest. Food takes precedence, it seems.

Squirrel on tree

(40) One of the surprisingly few squirrels on Carnegie Mellon's campus clings to the side of a tree, perhaps nervous but not yet sufficiently frightened as to run up.
