I am a graduate student in the Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University. My advisor is Ziv Bar-Joseph, an inspirational scientist and a long time marathon runner. I also collaborate with colleagues from University of Pittsburgh for experimental data and verification.
My research interests are nonparametric Bayesian methods and applications to Computational Biology. Currently, we are working on inferring interaction networks of microRNAs and mRNAs in cells. More on my research.I am a member of the Systems Biology group and one of the organizers of the Machine Learning Lunch at CMU.
I came from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My full vietnamese name is Lê Phước Hải Sơn. I love travelling and backpacking in exotic places. My recent destinations are Europe (France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Czech, Austria, Italy, Spain - 5 weeks in 2010), Japan (2011).

Prior to graduate school, I studied Computer Science at the University of Texas at Austin. I worked with Vijaya Ramanchandran and Tandy Warnow on algorithms for consensus phylogenetic trees and cache-oblivious algorithms in sequence alignment.
I spent some time in 2007-2008 with Google in Moutain View banging my head, monkey coding and crunching numbers for Gmail, Videos and Youtube. My past experience includes internships at Microsoft (2005, 2006) and Google (2009).
