Description of toy concept 2, Do you feel lucky?:
Do you feel lucky? consists of marbles, a spinner, 8 sections where the marble can roll into, and cards that correspond to 4 of the sections. The way to play is to take a marble and place it on the spinner. The spinner has grooves going all around it, so the marble will be able to flow onto the board. As the marble rows down towards the board in the grooves, the child spins the spinner. The marble will roll onto the board and land into one of the sections. If the marble rolls into the child's section, the child is one more marble closer to having 8 marbles, which is needed to win the game. If the marble lands into the child's opponent section, the opponent is one more marble closer to winning. If the marble lands into the good luck, bad luck, or 1/2 luck sections, the child will either win marbles, lose marbles, or have a chance of either winning or losing marbles in that respective order.
The principles of the toy are the kinetic energy, potential energy, torque, and unpredictability. The child learns these principles by applying a torque onto the spinner with his or her hands. The child will be able to see the potential energy turn into kinetic energy when playing with the spinner. Since the marble is placed at a height a little bit above the board on top of the spinner, energy is stored into the marble. As the marble rolls down the spinner, the potential energy is transferred into kinetic energy. The child also learned about unpredictability by noticing that the ball could land anywhere on the board.
The cost of constructing this toy is not that expensive because the toy will be made out of plastic molding. The marbles and cards can easily be produced. The spinner can be made out of plastic and plastic is usually not that expensive.
The toy will be durable and safe. The toy and the cards that come with it will have soft corners making the toy a little bit safer for the kids to play with. The marbles might be a problem, but the age group for this toy is 7 and up, so the likelihood of a child consuming the marble is small. To ensure the toy is durable, the plastic used for the toy will be reinforced by a durable material.
