Quiz1 Notes
Some important notes on Quiz1.
- Once again, we start comps and quizzes promptly at the assigned time (so be a few minutes early).
- You must take the quiz in your assigned lecture (or at ODR if you pre-arranged that with ODR directly).
- If you are in lecture1 and you sleep through the quiz, you cannot take it at lecture2 (sorry).
- Quiz1 is 30 minutes long. It contains:
- 2 Code Tracing (CT) [20 pts, 10 pts each]
- 2 Fill-in-the-Blank (FitB) [20 pts, 10 pts each]
- 2 Free Response (FR) [60 pts, 30 pts each]
- 2 Bonus Code Tracing [2 pts, 1 pt each]
- There are 2 versions of Quiz1. To aid in good decision-making, you will take a different version than your neighbors.
- Quiz1 covers all the material from Week1.
- You may find the Unit 1 Summary useful for review.
- After Quiz1, quizzes can cover any previous material, but QuizN focuses on the material from WeekN.
About Fill-in-the-Blank (FitB) problems
- The FitB problems have this particular form — you are given two functions
f and g, where g has a blank, and you have to fill in the blank so that f(n) == g(n) for all (integer) values of n.
- You will not find many of this style of FitB problems online in previous 112 semesters.
- So we are providing you with these Quiz1 Practice FitBs.
- That said, there are a ton of CT, FR, and BonusCT practice problems on previous semesters' quizzes. You can find links to the previous semesters at the top of our Syllabus.
- Note that some semesters cover slightly different material. If it seems we did not cover some topic, just skip it.
About FR0
- Quiz1 contains 2 Free Response problems: FR1 and FR2, each worth 30 points.
- Actually, as a safety net in case you are stuck on one of the FR's, Quiz1 contains another Free Response, FR0, with these special rules:
- Only attempt FR0 (for half-credit) if you cross out your answer (with a large ‘X’ across the whole answer box) to one of the other two FRs (and then we will not grade the crossed-out FR answer). If you do not cross out one of the other two FR answers, we will not grade FR0 even if you complete it.
About BonusCT
- BonusCTs are optional, and intended to be very challenging. They are worth very few points. We strongly suggest you only attempt the BonusCTs once you are sure you are done with the rest of the quiz.
Quiz1 frontmatter
- You must write your name on this paper and hand this back in immediately after the assessment. If we do not receive it immediately, you will receive a zero on the assessment. Do not unstaple any pages. All pages must be handed in intact.
- Do not use your own scrap paper. You should not need it, but if you must absolutely have scrap paper, raise your hand and we will provide some. Write your andrewID clearly on it and hand it in with your quiz. We will not grade anything on scrap paper.
- You may not ask questions during the quiz, except for English-language clarification questions. If you are unsure about a problem, take your best guess.
- Before and during the quiz, you may not view any other notes, prior work, websites or resources, including any form of AI. You may not use calculators, phones, laptops, or any other devices. You may not communicate with anyone else except for current 112 TAs or faculty during the assessment. All syllabus policies apply.
- You may not discuss this test with anyone else, even briefly, in any form, until we have released grades. Failure to abide by these rules may result in an academic integrity violation.
- Do not use material we have not yet covered. Thus, do not use loops, strings, lists, tuples, sets, dictionaries, OOP, or recursion.
- For all problems, assume that the required imports (such as
import math) are present.
- Do not open this or look inside (even briefly) before you are ready to begin. Do not spend more than the specified time noted above on this assessment.
Quiz1 Scratch frontmatter
- If you need scratch paper, you must only use this supplied scratch paper.
- Write your name, andrewID, and section on this sheet.
- Submit this sheet with your quiz.
- We will not grade anything on this sheet.
That's everything. We hope this helps, and good luck!!!
