Mona Diab, the director of Carnegie Mellon University's Language Technologies Institute, was selected as an Association of Computational Linguistics (ACL) fellow for 2023, one of the highest honors in the field of computational linguistics.
The ACL selected Diab for her contributions to Arabic natural language processing (NLP) and lexical semantics and for democratizing NLP to wider and less privileged communities. She was one of five newly selected fellows.
Diab joined CMU's School of Computer Science in August. She previously worked at Meta, where she was the lead responsible AI scientist; at Amazon Web Services, where she was a principal scientist; and George Washington University, where she was a professor and founded the CARE4Lang lab.
