In partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania and Homewood Children's Village, we're working to hire, train and pay local teens to make a difference in the lives of middle school summer campers in Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
Launched in 2020, STEM Ambassadors has trained close to 90 teens to provide high quality STEM education to more than 5,000 learners across Pittsburgh.
Every community organization is different, but all share core characteristics. That's why our partnership model follows the same path as the organizations we work with ... until it's time to really get to work and solve problems. That's because each neighborhood, neighbor and program tackles a unique need in a unique way, while still focusing on our core value of honoring community expertise and leadership. We bring what we're good at to bear on the issues our partners have identified as most pressing for the youth they serve in a way that acknowledges the challenges and strengths they've identified.
STEM Ambassadors have worked with more than 10 Pittsburgh community organizations to bring STEM education to local communities over the summer. We provide our host sites with STEM kits and training for teen educators. We're open to new host sites year-round — no deadline to apply. Interested in joining us? Sign up below!
STEM Ambassadors has trained nearly 90 teens to lead hands-on STEM lessons in their communities. Applications open each year from January through March, and our summer program runs for 8 weeks. Interested in making a difference this summer?
With support from one of our partner sites, Sarah Heinz House, we've developed a STEM curriculum that our teen educators use across all host sites. Want to bring STEM learning to your community? Explore our curriculum below!
Together with our technical partner, Meta Mesh, we collaborated with local school districts, other universities and nonprofits to create a community-based wireless internet service provider to provide internet access to the people who needed it most.
There are lots of reasons that kids who are interested in learning to code never sign up for activities that teach them programming skills.
We teamed up with Beta Builders to enable kids in Pittsburgh to overcome these barriers and access world-class introductory computer science content.
