When you are working on a product/application/service that involves handling of Personal Data, it is important to involve Legal early and often to maximize their value to you (i.e., Legal as an “asset”) and reduce your risk of scrambling to fix legal issues at the last minute (i.e., Legal as a “roadblock”). This presentation will focus on best practices for engaging with Legal, and will also identify key privacy issues and risks that you can proactively consider to facilitate timely and efficient Legal review.
Darcey Rhoades is the Senior Counsel and Director of Data Privacy – U.S. for Bayer U.S. LLC in Pittsburgh. She is responsible for Data Privacy compliance for the U.S. organization, including its pharmaceuticals, consumer health, crop science and animal health divisions. Ms. Rhoades also works closely with her counterparts at Bayer’s global headquarters in Germany and around the world to support global projects and initiatives. Prior to her current role, Ms. Rhoades was Senior Counsel in Bayer’s Corporate Law department, where she provided legal support to IT, Human Resources, and other corporate functions.
Before joining Bayer, Ms. Rhoades was a Corporate Associate with the law firm Pepper Hamilton LLP, where she focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions, public offerings and financings.
Ms. Rhoades is a Certified Information Privacy Professional/US. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law (J.D.) and Washington and Lee University (B.S., Business Administration/Accounting and Broadcast Journalism).
