Notes This class is a modification of the Lutzow-class CL, refit with “acquired” 1st Gen GSN/RMN IC and impeller technology; redesignated as a Destroyer Leader (Flotilla Command Ship). The lead ship of this remodeled class is IAS Lutzow, the oldest (and one of the few remaining) ship of the original Lutzow CL class.
The primary modifications (other than IC/impeller refit) to the original ship lie in the removal of one 45cm laser from each broadside, with the space thus freed being used to install heavier sidewall generators, and in the partitioning of the original Marine Quarters to accommodate a small but complete Flag Suite and limited passenger accommodations, normally unused.
