| Notes | The Leutzen class Assault Transport
is designed to carry division-strength Royal Manticoran Army Expeditionary
Units, with supporting elements and supplies, to systems where they are assigned
to garrison duty; and to provide limited orbital fire support as needed.
The ship’s DD-grade armaments and CA-grade defenses and EW/ECM capability
allows it to protect itself from light raiding forces, thus reducing the
numbers of escorts needed and freeing up light combatants for system patrol
duties. Unlike high-speed APs, the Leutzen does not mount DN-grade impellers, thus restricting its sublight performance to the same acceleration/velocity range as civilian ships. It carries a 32-Beta node impeller suite, allowing it to mount more powerful sidewalls than a merchantman of equivalent size, and military-grade compensator and Warshawski sails for warship performance in hyper-space. The volume saved by carrying lower-powered impellers is utilized to carry a larger complement of landing craft–including six complete Assault Shuttle squadrons–and a larger quantity of supplies. |
