This class was introduced in On Basilisk Station. It was designed in the late 18th/early 19th Century P.D. Units were under construction for nearly 50 T-years. Courageous-class CLs were the most numerous class of the type in the RMN up until the expansion begun under King Roger III.
Remaining units of this class would be redesignated as Destroyers after refit with current-standard impellers/inertial compensators.
The most renowned unit of the class is HMS Fearless, CL-56, which, under the command of then-Commander Honor S. Harrington and after a major refit which stripped out most of her long-range armament in favor of a heavy battery of energy torpedoes and an experimental light grav lance, engaged and destroyed the 7.5M-ton Havenite Astra-class Q-ship RHMS Sirius in the First Battle of Basilisk. HMS Fearless’s post-refit broadside armament was 7x Energy Torpedoes / 1x Mod 7 Missile Launcher / x2 30cm Lasers.
