INTRODUCTION:

This discography is an attempt to catalog all the recordings (including TV shows) on which J.D. Crowe has played. A later version will be organized by recording sessions.

The first part of the discography has recordings from each of Crowe's main groups--Jimmy Martin and the Sunny Mountain Boys, the Kentucky Mountain Boys, the New South, and the Bluegrass Album Band. These recordings are arranged in (roughly) chronological order of their release dates. Following this is a list of other people's recordings on which J.D. has appeared, arranged in alphabetical order.

Only the tracks on which J.D. appears are listed. I haven't been able to identify personnel on specific tracks on some recordings yet: in this case, I've listed all the tracks.

Any questions, comments, additions, or corrections will be greatly appreciated and should be emailed to me at

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS:

I would like to thank J.D. Crowe, Steve Baron, Frank Godbey, Gene Knight, Hank Edenborn, Bob Sachs, Frank J. Schoepf, and Barry Willis for their assistance. Much of the information on recordings with Jimmy Martin came from the discography included in the liner notes to Bear Family CD 15705, written by Edward Stubbs and Richard Weize. I also made extensive use of the Rounder Records web pages.
