Lecture 15: Focusing

In this lecture we combine the insights behind the inversion strategy and backchaining in the form of the focusing strategy, originally developed by Andreoli for linear logic and later generalized by Howe to the intuitionistic case. While we mostly think of it in the form of proof search in the backward direction, it also has applications to the inverse method, to be discussed in a future lecture.
