The purpose of the project is to enhance character animation using computer graphics and motion capture data. Our particular interest lies in animating inanimate objects. As part of the project a list of published reference works dealing with various animation and deformation methods will be compiled.


My tasks this summer include becoming comfortable with Autodesk Maya and animating characters using motion capture data. The first step is to learn how to model in Maya. To continue the research I need to learn how to retarget motion from a motion capture skeleton to a custom-made character's skeleton. After mastering this process I will begin to investigate ways to implement free form deformations to achieve a more natural looking motion.
