Missiles — GSN/RMN
Missile Names “Mark 50" and “Mark 27," the Descriptor “VLR,” and Launcher Names “Mod 7" and “Mod 19" are official TOWIDW Designators provided either in the Canon or (in the case of VLR) by Cap’n Russ.
All other Designators and Descriptors are courtesy of Yours Truly, cobbled up for ease of entry into Nefarious Lists and/or general discussion.
“Mod Bn” launchers are single-shot “Box Launchers” for the same missile series as the standard launcher named: the “B7” is for the Mk50 Series, for example.
“Mod nR” (M.n) Launchers are 5-shot “Box Launchers” with as much circuitry/other equipment shared among each of the five “boxes” as practical. ROF= 1 rd/3sec (cyclic 20rds/min)
“Mod nR2" Launchers are double-cylinder Revolver Launchers. All missiles in the first (or forward) cylinder must be fired before the missiles in the second (aft) cylinder can be fired. ROF= 1rd/3sec forward cylinder, 10-second cylinder reset, 1rd/3sec aft cylinder (cyclic 15rds/min). Reloading the R2 launcher takes 2.5 times as long as the R launcher for the same missile.
Mk51/52, 39/40 and 28/29 missiles are experimental Extended Range and High Power variations on the basic Mk50, 38 and 27 shipkillers. They use “Beta-Squared” impeller technology to reduce the size of the drive and power supply (to approximately five-eights the original size), freeing up additional volume for additional drive/power supply or more powerful warheads.
Mk51, 39, and 28 Extended Range Missiles carry a small “second stage” drive with half the duration of the primary drive. Like the three-stage drive in the Mk42 VLR Missile, this stage can be set to activate immediately upon burnout of the primary, or after a pre-set delay period. Unlike the primary drive, this can only be set to operate at full power.
Mk52, 40, and 29 High Power variants use the additional space available to mount more powerful warheads: the Mk52 can carry either a standard Mk38 warhead or two Mk50 warheads, the Mk39 can carry one Mk27 or two Mk38; and the Mk29 carries twin Mk27 warheads.
The Mk53 “missile” is a 70-ton Ghost Rider recon drone, designed primarily for use in the Shaman-class PCLR.
The Mk12 Ground-Based Missile is the hypothetical GSN/RMN equivalent to the PN ground-based missile used by Blackbird Base in The Honor of the Queen. Like the PN missile, it is used in launchers based on airless planets and moons. I postulate a normal (full-power) boost phase of 90 seconds, as opposed to the 60 seconds of shipboard missiles, with a warhead 50 percent more powerful than a standard DN/SD missile (three warheads instead of two), and I also assume it would be the standard weapon for RMN Orbital/Junction Fortresses – at least up to the development of the Very Long Range Missile (Mk42 VLRM).
The application codes below indicate the type of ship or launcher the missile is generally used with. The P1 code signifies the “first generation” missile pods used by the Wayfarer-class “Trojan Horse” Q-ships – the pods available at the start of the war; P2 is the “second generation” missile pod used by the Honor Harrington-class SDP.

* The existence of these specific models is totally conjectural. They are included here mostly because I would have built them if I were in charge of RMN BuShips and/or GSN Office of Shipbuilding.
** This is the launcher for the “P2" Missile Pods.
*** Mass includes mass of Shrike/Shrike-A LAC; the same bay (with modifications) is used for other Type 3-8 PCLs up to 25,000 tons (found in Parts 2A and 2B). Dimensions are guesstimated from the illustration in Echoes of Honor.
