Flying Top

The Flying Top is essentially a top which is spun by pulling a rip-chord attached to its spinner. Once the top is spun, the mechanism creates such a high torque that the top actually hovers up instead of falling. This is achieved by making the top very light( yet stable) and by the three wing-like features on its sides which produce lift.
- Children interact with this toy by spinning the top as fast as they can, causing it to fly as high as possible.
- The flying top was inspired by the similar principle that is used for helicopters to achieve flight.
- The top being made out of styrofoam and plastic makes it very cheap, but not too durable since the materials can break easily. The wings might cause injury to small children by poking their eyes even though they are blunt and made out of styrofoam which is why children below the age of 6 should not be using it.
