- A pulley system, also known as a block and tackle, uses ropes and small wheels to either change the direction of the application of force on an object or to increase the mechanical advantage in the system.
- There are three separate systems: a single, a double and a quadruple pulley.
- The pulley systems are hung inside of an easy-to-build wooden frame made using these schematics.
- The goal of the pulley systems is to demonstrate to the kids that by adding pulleys and increasing the mechanical advantage of the system:
- it requires less force to lift the weight.
- the force must be applied over a longer distance.
- Please note, power tools are necessary to build the frame.
