Physical Principle:
This construction kit relies on the shape integrity of geometric shapes.
When building large structures, load capacity and static forces of components
are taken into account as well as stability and equilibria.
Description:
The wire frame construction kit consists of a variety of bendable wire
pieces that can be shaped into different forms. The wires are coated
with rubber and each end has a joint. Small plastic joint pieces are
used to interlock a set of wires. The child builds objects by arranging
the wires into shapes and then joining them with joints. A kit would
consist of a variety of wire lengths and joint types.
Cost, Durability and Safety:
The Wire Frames Construction Kit would cost about $75 for a complete
set. Most of the wire components are made out of metal wire coated in
rubber. The joint pieces would be made out of plastic. Since the wires
are free to bend and joint pieces are fairly strong, the kit would be
extremely durable. I don't expect the wires to break through extensive
rearrangement, but they would probably be the first thing to break.
The toy is rather safe, but care should be taken around small children
because of the small joint pieces. The toy is intended for children
age 7+.
