![]() Before the drop ![]() After the drop The focus of this activity was to be able to save an egg when dropped from 2nd floor window to outside. There were only certain materials available. Add groups were given same amount of money(in mue) to purchase the materials. Our solution must land as close as possible to the target circle on the ground. Also, it must save the egg and use less materials. Communication The communication was very important in this activity. All three of group members were given a role, one keeps track of how much mues left, one works on functionality, and the other works on aesthetic. Each member of our group played their role very well, so that we got our all materials needed with the money available, it was aessthetically pleasing looking, and it functioned well(saved the egg). Problem Solving To minimize the impact on the egg when hitting the ground, we used two cups, one plastic and one styrofoam. we put styrofoam cup on top of plastic cup. On the styrofoam cup, we pu bunch of thin slices of papers and we put egg on top of than. We covered our egg completely with the thin slices of paper. Then the styrofoam cup with the egg and thin slices of paper was wrapped with a cut-out of plastic bag, to ensure that the egg will stay in place. Finally, we made a little parachute out of plastic bag to slow down the egg while dropping to ground. We cut out part of the plastic bag, so that only top part is left(see picture above) to make sure that we get enough air goes into the parachute to make enough force to slow down the egg carrier. Team Work Our group worked in very good team work. Each of us took their responsibility to make our solution a success. Self and Team Evaluation When we dropped our solution, it behaved just the way we intended it to be. The cut-out of plastic bag worked very well as a parachute and it slowed down the dropping egg very much, and was able to save the egg. Our solution was a success except that it landed very far from the target circle. This was because it was very windy when we dropped our solution, and because it dropped very slowly(with the parachute), it moved very far away from the target circle on the ground. Knowledge About Rapid Prototyping Technologies In this activity, we were required to brainstorm good solution(both functional and good looking) in short time. It was very interesting because as we spit out an idea, better idea came out based on the existing idea. So as we brainstormed and discussed our solution, our ideas were getting better and better, from a non-sense idea to our final product. |
