Matthew Kam is an Assistant Professor in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. His research interests include computer-assisted language learning, educational games, literacy technologies, mobile learning and technology in the developing world. Previously, with the support of a fellowship from the United Nations and University of California, Berkeley, Matthew participated as a third-party evaluator of a microfinance transaction technology in Uganda spearheaded by Hewlett-Packard. As a former administrator, he served on a US$5 million, 18-month project in the Singapore Armed Forces, where he helped to manage its finances and organize the logistics for 200,000 personnel. Matthew earned all his degrees at the University of California, Berkeley: Ph.D. in Computer Science with a minor in Education, B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, and B.A. in Economics.

Leonora
Anyango-Kivuva is a language instructor
and teacher trainer with more than twenty years of
classroom experience. She has taught Japanese,
Swahili, English and English as a Second Language
(ESL) at the elementary, middle, high school and
college levels, both in the USA and her native Kenya.
For most of her career, Leonora has helped
underprivileged children and adults attain language
competency for their self-confidence and vocational
needs. In particular, she developed the first ESL
curriculum for Somali Bantu refugee children in the
Pittsburgh School District. Most recently, she
completed her postdoctoral stint as the Frederick
Douglass Scholar at the California University of
Pennsylvania, where she developed an 18-month
curriculum for its M.A. in Teaching ESL program.
She holds a Ph.D. in International and
Development Education from the University of
Pittsburgh, as well as a Master’s and Bachelor’s
degree in Education from Kenyatta University, Kenya.
