High elven clans today
Although there may still be a few family ties running through some of
the clans, the current high-elven clans bear a closer resemblance to
mercenary bands and political factions than to extended families.
Without an Empire to derive power and influence from, the clans have
begun competing for more tangible resources, most notably members,
money, and magic. Defections are relatively common, and some clans
are making a concerted effort to cannibalize the others. Not that
this is any more cutthroat than the fun and games that went on in
Auramkil, of course (and the inter-clan assassination attempts
naturally continue), but it's a different flavor of in-fighting.
Inside Auramkil
The situation in Auramkil was much like that outside until well into
AK 594. According to Lady Ylena, many of the elves still in Auramkil
are now banding together in attempt to hold on to whatever is left of
their position and have settled into a district which has become
informally known as the Elven Quarter. The Marek clan is among the leaders of this
movement.
