The Balan Clan

Formerly the Imperial Elite Guard

The Balan returned to the northern continent in AK 592 to begin anti-spider operations with the Nirduk, Parnos, and Shorin clans; they were supposed to make contact with the West, but neither their visit to the Keeplands nor any anti-spider offensive actually took place. They were never heard from again, which is beginning to strike people as downright odd.

Palantor

Palantor is the current leader of the Balan. He is Chaotic Good (though he's not especially fond of Hajmola), believes in elven unity, and had an invisible lizard on his shoulder when the clan leaders met to discuss that spider stuff.

In 539, when Palantor was an influential member of the Elite Guard, he was engaged to Ilyana Marek, and together they uncovered a plot to kill Ranatir, the Marek clan leader. It turned out that the Mareks themselves (including Ilyana's parents) were behind the plot, so he called off the wedding and broke off relations with the clan.
