Letters: US Drug-free Rehab Program Needed Here - Now

Illawarra Mercury, 4 October 1997

SIR - Official supply of drugs to addicts is an old practice.

Psychiatrists originally thought cocaine was a non-addictive cure for opium. They thought the same of morphine, heroin and methadone. They were wrong each time and have slowly created a huge social menace.

Now the heroin trials are on hold, there is a fresh chance to examine positive but neglected solutions.

A drug-free rehabilitation program, called Narconon, is now producing extraordinary results in hard-core addicts in America. We need it here - urgently.

- LINDA VIJ, Beaconsfield.
