What is the Web?
The World-Wide Web was developed by Tim Berners-Lee at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland in 1991
It took off in mid 1993 with the public release of Mosaic from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Developed to link physicists and engineers at different sites
Uses a standard format by everyone who contributes resources and is accessible from different platforms
