Glenville, WV

Implementation Schedule:

The Glenville wireless network will be implemented in two phases: first, school, government and nonprofit organizations; second, local business and residents. In phase one, the college, high school, and the county court house will be connected to the wireless network. In phase two, local businesses and residents will have access to the network

Glenville Installation::

  1. Glenville is capable and ready to be the first site to receive a high speed network.
  2. Deployment of the high speed network will require the close cooperation of efforts among the Glenville State College technical staff, Carnegie Mellon computer scientists and engineers and the installation contractor.
  3. Utilization of the network will require intensive and continuous education and support of the Glenville community.
  4. CANA is ready to proceed with the installation.

Performance Methodology Measures:

The final product for CANA will be identified by two objectives. Foremost, that the wireless network will be maintained by the site and the network will be economically self sustaining. Secondarily, the use of technology by the community will increase and impact the social and economic viability of the site.

CANA reduces the success of the project to the economic litmus test of self sustainability, because

  1. the measurement is uncontestable,
  2. economic value is assured if the network meets the criterion and
  3. the ultimate objective of CANA is determine what combination of public/private partnership is best suited for the wide spread deployment of high speed networks. Given the current state of government and not for profit funding, it is prudent to develop an economic model that minimally relies on public and or grant money. Thus, CANA seeks to determine whether there is sufficient demand to induce private resources to create rural high speed networks.
