The Lightning Galop.
Charles D'albert, c. 1854. Sheet music with a hand coloured chromolithographic cover showing an image of the clipper ship, Lightning. The broadside view of the starboard side, shows the clipper not fully rigged, the square rig sails and top sails are furled. A swallow-tailed flag is flying from the mainmast and people are visible on deck. The water is hand coloured green, and sky is hand coloured blue. |

Wild Ranger off Eddystone Light
Attributed to R. B. Spencer, oil on canvas, c. 1855. Ship portrait of the clipper, Wild Ranger passing the Eddystone lighthouse in rough waters. The ship is shown in a broadside view of the port side. This 3-masted clipper has the fore-royal sail, main-skysail and mizzen royal sail unfurled, the fore-topgallant sail, the main-royal sail and the mizzen-topgallant are loose. The name `Wild Ranger' appears twice on port side. The image also shows figures visible working on deck, the American flag and 5 signal flags fly from the mizzen mast. The lighthouse is visible in the distance. The Wild Ranger came to Sydney and Melbourne in 1857, and from San Francisco to Melbourne 1860. |

Clipper ship Tornado, struck by a whirlwind.

The image at top shows the clipper ship Tornado with a broken foremast caused by a whirlwind. The image at the bottom shows a prospecting miner in the process of dreaming. He is depicted holding the barrel of his gun in his left hand, with a Bowie knife and weapons by his right side. Three dream images are seen of him in the background: loading his riches and preparing to embark home, prospecting equipment nearby and in the process of prospecting. |
