The KANTOO Sentence Database (KSDB)

The KANTOO Sentence Database (KSDB) is useful for maintaining sentences, and testing them using the KANTOO Analyzer and Generator.

In order to use the KSDB, you must be authenticated. So make sure that your user name is correct in the KSDB Startup window before selecting any menu options.

The KSDB consists of two major components, the Rewriter and the Tester. The Rewriter is useful for letting you view a set of sentences, and edit them. The Tester is useful for letting you run the Analyzer and Generator on a set of sentences, and viewing and scoring the outputs. You must invoke the Rewriter first before invoking the Tester. The following menu options help you select which sentences to view under the Rewriter:

Menu Options

Choose Document

By selecting this option, you may edit a single document from the KSDB. You will be prompted to select a document to view, and you will be given a list of available documents. You may select a document by double-clicking on it, or by selecting it and clicking OK.

Query Database

By selecting this option, you may issue a query to the KSDB. You will receive a dialog with several components:
SQL Query Text
This is the actual query that will be sent to the KSDB. By default, it asks for a list of every sentence from the database. You may refine this query yourself, presumably by adding a WHERE clause. Actually, you can alter the query however you like, so long as the query begins with the default text.
Reset button
This button resets the Query Text to its default value. This is useful is you have made changes to the query text that you wish to discard.
Regexp Text Entry
If you wish to query the KSDB for all sentences that contain a regular expression, you may enter the regular expression into this entry and press Return. The Query Text will be adjusted accordingly to only query for sentences that contain your regexp. (If you've made other changes to the Query Text, they remain unchanged.)

Don't forget to press Return after entering your regexp, otherwise it will not be incorporated into the SQL query!

Edit Button
When you are finished creating your SQL query, you may hit \ to invoke the Rewriter on your query.
Test Button
When you are finished creating your SQL query, you may hit \ to invoke the Tester on your query.
Cancel Button
Use this button to close the dialog and cancel the query.

Relinquish Locks

Whenever you invoke the Rewriter on a document or query, all the sentences involved are locked so that no one can edit them while you are examining them. When you normally exit the Rewriter, these sentences are normally unlocked. But if you exit the KSDB abnormally, such as if your computer crashes, the locks may not get relinquished.

You can then elect to Relinquish Locks which frees up any sentences that you may have inadvertently locked.
