| Notes | (1) The Parasite Bays are located as
follows: * Bay 1 is on the upper hull in the forward taper section. This bay is the primary ceremonial entry port for the ship when in space; the main gangway for station boarding tubes is immediately adjacent. * Bays 2 and 3 are located just forward of midships on the underside of the hull, immediately adjacent to the Marine Quarters. * Bay 4 is located on the lower hull in the forward taper section. This is the general-purpose bay and primary cargo entry for the ship. * Bays 5 and 6 are located in the aft taper section of the hull, beginning just behind and below the after end of the main gun deck. They are cross-connected through a turnout “Y” section to allow the LACs to be brought aboard and serviced bows-inboard, then turned and launched bows-outboard. Two additional PCL-3/4/5 LACs may be stored in this section. The quarters and shop facilities for the LAC Section are placed between and around these bays. * Bays 7 and 8 are located in the upper hull in the aft taper section. Each bay holds six pre-loaded missile pods in two ranks of three, allowing the ship to deploy and tractor six pods at a time, thus giving it both a first- and second-salvo capability. The pods launch sternward over the after hammerhead. Six additional pods may be towed on tractors astern, for a total of 18 pods in three salvos. (2) Parasite Bay assignments: * Bay 1: x2 Fox; x1 Clipper; x1 Yard. * Bay 2: x2 Whitman; x1 Buccaneer; x1 Howard; x1 Enrico Walker. * Bay 3: x2 Whitman; x2 Buccaneer; x1 Enrico Walker. * Bay 4: x1 Clipper; x2 Provider; x1 Yard. * Bay 5: x1 Shrike-A * Bay 6: x1 Shrike-A * Bay 7: x6 MPLR Mk3 Missile Pod * Bay 8: x6 MPLR Mk3 Missile Pod (3) Projected Class Strength: 80+. Keel Plates Laid: * BC-25 GNS Champion Harrington (Laid down 1 Jan 1914 P.D., Commissioned 1 Oct 1914 P.D.) * BC-26 GNS Captain-General Mackenzie (Laid down 15 Jan 1914 P.D.) * BC-27 GNS Barbara Bancroft (Laid down 29 Jan 1914 P.D. See Note 4) * BC-28 GNS Yanakov Steading (Laid down 13 Feb 1914 P.D.) * BC-29 GNS Mayhew Steading (Laid down 27 Feb 1914 P.D.) * BC-30 GNS Surtees Steading (Laid down 12 Mar 1914 P.D.) * BC-31 GNS Watson Steading (Laid down 26 Mar 1914 P.D.) * BC-32 GNS Michaelson Steading (Laid down 9 Apr 1914 P.D.) Additional ships in this class will be named for Grayson Steadings and/or Steadholders in the order of the establishment of the Steadings. Where the Steading’s history includes a particularly prominent figure (particularly a holder of the Star of Grayson) the ship will be named for that individual. Where possible, ships will be crewed by Navy and Army/Marine personnel drawn from the namesake steading. No ships will be named for the disestablished Steadings of Burdette, Oswald or Simonds. (4) GNS Barbara Bancroft, named for the “Mother of Grayson,” will be manned by volunteers from all Steadings. |
