* The format has been changed entirely: each ship is now a separate table, and each Navy/Designer Group has been placed in a separate document. The Masadan Space Navy has been moved to Part 1-D.

* The mass numbers for the PN/PMS Astra-class BBQ/AKL have been corrected (after a re-reading of OBS).

* Following ship types/classes added: RMMM Argonaut-class MS-AKL (in Part 1 SubPart C); Chalice/Silesian FG and ARL, Erewhonese Victoria Regina-class DN (in Part 1 SubPart D); Langley-class CVE, Magnus Colorado-class SDV, Reverend Julius Hanks-class AHF, Caravanserai-class ANV (in Part 2-A); Erewhonese Ireland-class BC and Brian Boru-class CA, IAN Bismarck-class BC (in Part 2-B).

* Designer Credits for Part 2-B have been slightly modified.

* This nifty Table of Contents/Introduction section has been added.

There are probably other things I should have mentioned, but these are the only ones that pop into my mind at present.

NOTES TO THE SECOND EDITION

Following is the NEFARIOUS LIST, v2.0

Changes from v1.0

* The lo-o-o-o-ng table has now been split up into separate tables for each of the Navies as mentioned by DW and by the designer for the "new" ships. (As usual, mine are first).

* The mass numbers for the PN Conqueror-class DD and PN DuQuesne-class/GNS Manticore's Gift (DuQuesne-mod) class SD (after rechecking statement of Triumphant BB mass/comparison to DuQuesne SD mass in FiE).

* Missile armament changed on PN City-class DD and all RMN DDs.

* Total Complement/Core Crew/Marine Complement numbers changed for RMN DDs.

* Following ship classes added: Olympus BC, Archer BC, Sentinel CC, Lakota CLE, Venizelos DDE, Lewrie DDL, County DNE, Archangel SDP.

Appropriate primary credit for suggestions/new entries may be taken by John, Jonathan, Kevin, Kyle, Paul, and even (gasp) Scott. Secondary credit may be taken by everyone else who has posted comments at Aegys's Board on this and similar topics.

Additional commentary would be appreciated. Please post them on the Board unless you think they are excessively or personally critical -- I would like as much input as possible. Remember what DW said and Kevin quoted -- FIGHT NICE!

NOTES TO THE FIRST EDITION

The ship types and classes are arranged (more or less) as follows:

1) The Navy or Star Nation of the ship's origin (Service) in the following order: Grayson Space Navy, Masadan Space Navy, People's Navy, Royal Manticoran Navy/Merchant Marine, Chalice Navy (so-called; aka Silesian Standard), and Imperial Andermani Navy -- it's last because we only know anything about one ship of theirs. After that come the various ships proposed on the HHDB between August and 20 October 98, mostly fleshed out by yours truly, starting with the ships I designed (of course), identified by the Service Code "Harrington Blackbird Yards" or "HBY/{something}." Those created by others follow, with the "designer" identified in the NOTES field.

2) The Ship Type, alphabetical by the two to four-place code that identifies the type, but with the Combatant vessels first, then the Combat Support vessels, Auxiliary Vessels, and non-combatant hyper-capable vessels, then the normal-space warships (i.e., LACs) for each Navy/Star Nation. Small craft (cutters, shuttles, pinnaces) come after all of the h-/n-space warships, in the same Service sequence.

3) The Mass/Displacement in tons for each Class within the Type.

Most of the stats are extrapolations, especially dimensions (Length/Beam/Draught), as the only ship for which we know them all is the Reliant-class BC. You will note that I have, for the most part, picked a Beam and Draught for each Type and varied the Length as the Mass changes.

Weapons fit was the biggest problem, which is why I didn't even try to guesstimate magazine capacities. I have generally (but not always) settled on a particular size of energy weapon for each Service and Type, and just varied the numbers carried. Broadside and Chase weapons numbers assume identical fits Port/Starboard and Bow/Stern, except where specifically noted otherwise (as in x4 F / x2 A: 4 of the weapons FWD, 2 AFT), but I think you'll be able to figure it out fairly easily.

Modern GSN warships are based on their nearest RMN equivalents, with weapons fit adjusted to what I think is the Grayson Design Philosophy (more missile tubes, fewer but bigger energy weapons, more automation so lower crew requirements). The launcher models for RMN and GSN ships were identified in FiE -- but the model for DN/SD launchers was not mentioned.

Laser and graser calibres are based on what little we have been told: a CL-grade broadside laser is 30cm, chase laser 60cm, and a BC-grade broadside graser is 150cm, which is 156% of the size of a CL chase graser (when a CL has one).

I have also assumed that all RMN and GSN ships are being constantly re-fit with the latest generations of ICs, impellers, and standard EW/ECM/ECCM and additional goodies like Ghost Rider drones and FTL Com capability as they come in for regular refits, so I don't bother to mention them.
