Rounding

A person's work will hopefully bring purpose and at least a dollop of satisfaction to his life.  But it takes many other things to round out a life and make it whole.  Here are some of the things that round out mine.

I've been an avid percussionist since the fourth grade.  I played professionally in urban concert and symphonic groups while in high school, and played in several rock bands in college.  I currently own a really nice Roland MIDI drum kit, but I have given it shamefully too little attention.

Hiking in the mountains is one of the most spiritual activities I've engaged in, and always restores my balance.  I've hiked in the Adirondacks, Berkshires, Yosemite, and Muir woods.

I'm an avid Playstation and PC gamer.  I play mostly role-playing games, like those from Squaresoft and  Interplay , but also dabble in platform games like Abe's Oddysee (one of my all-time favs), real shooters like Time Crisis, and adventures like Monkey Island or Blade Runner.  I frequently opine about how one could approach creating the "ultimate game," and I think being a game designer could be a righteously fun job.

Ever since college when my friend Sean Sandys introduced me to it, I've been a huge Japanese anime fan. OK, so I also have a substantial Disney collection (and Tarzan rocks!), but the variety, daring, and character designs of anime inspire me in ways Disney seldom does. Some of my favorites are Bubblegum Crisis, The Vision of Escaflowne, Vampire Princess Miyuu, Slayers, Battle Angel, Bastard!, Heroic Legend of Arislan, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Record of Lodoss War.
