answer would be not to have nk.bin on the same flash card as fboot.nb0.
This is already stated in the Manufacturing Initial Configuration and
Installation Manual that Tracy Treat is taking excerpts from to enhance the
AV-TS Hardware Guide.
discussions with Jeff on this loading issue brought this up as a possible
cause. With other priorities, he wasn't able to get back to me with
an answer. But as Jeff was trying to load both WinCE3.0 and a new
BallotStation version at the same time, it may be that bootloader had nothing to
do with the problem. Or he may have had the bootloader on the same flash
card without realizing it.
Jeff Hallmark: Can you please respond as
to whether or not the situation mentioned above was the cause of the
problem you experienced?
I had only suggested that Jeff may have been
having a problem with the loader. The problem is in the eprom boot
loader version 1.0 that is currently used in production. The problem is that
if both the fboot.nb0 and the nk.bin are loaded from the same flash
card, when booting from PROM, the system tries to run the nk.bin
(WinCE image) but the jumbers are set for the EPROM not the FLASH image and
the system re-boots and start to re-load the image. If the system is
powered off while it is re-loading the fboot.nb0 then there is no flash boot
loader to run.

Subject: RE: AccuVote-TS firmware
I understand that
there was a problem with the loader that confused Jeff Hallmark and caused
him to have trouble loading the firmware. What was
this problem, and what versions of the firmware were affected by this
