Late Homework Submission Policy

15-211 has a flexible late policy which allows 5 "late days" with a maximum allocation of two days per assignment.

Each student will be given a total of five credits, of which at most two can be used to "purchase" 24 or 48 worth of extension on a homework. The TA's will keep track of how many remaining credits you have. An assignment will be considered late, and you will be charged one credit, if you fail to hand in the assignment by the specified time and date. After 24 hours, if you still haven't turned in the assignment you will be charged a second credit, and so forth. Credits are not divisible. That is, if you hand in an assignment, say, 12 hours after the due date you are still charged one full credit. Once you have used all five credits, you will get a zero on the assignment, and on any future assignment you attempt to pass in late.

You may not use late day credits for the written portion of homework assignments. You must turn those in during lecture at their specified due time. We will accept on-time written homework submissions by email if, due to extraordinary circumstances, you are unable to attend lecture when the assignment is due. Please do not abuse this.

Exceptions to this policy will only be made in extraordinary circumstances. As a general rule, you should not request an exception to this late policy. You should instead contact your academic advisor or dean, and have them send us a request on your behalf.

FrontDesk will account for lateness based on the time of your submission. FrontDesk's record of events will not be altered under any circumstances. Submissions made one second after the deadline will be marked as "1 day late". However, if you should go over the allocated number of late days, course staff will look at your submission times and overlook late days caused by submissions a very short time after midnight. Please do not email course staff regarding any such instances.
