Pittsburgh Study Group - Past Meetings
Year 1999:
Assignment: from the "Book 1 Guidebook", p.52: Select 10 headlines from a newspaper (not only front page!) and analyze them: What percentage of stories reflect actions, decisions, choices or opinions based on Fear, what percentage based on Love? Then do the same with another source, e.g., a magazine, a history book etc. Finally, look at the stories you labelled as "fear-based" and ask yourself: "What would have happened here with Love being the Sponsoring Thought instead of Fear?"
Assignment: Re-read the passages about "things that happen to us", particularly about "pain" (pp.35-37, p.37) which we read and discussed in our last meeting. What meaning has "pain" and "suffering" for you? Did your view about this change through reading CWG? Do you think you understand these concepts as they are presented in CWG?
Assignment: Re-read the bottom part of page 44. We are told that we have indeed "unlimited potential". Do we believe that we do? If not, why can't or don't we believe this? If yes, what changes does our path of life take to represent this "new belief" in our unlimited potential?
Assignment: One topic of our last meeting was "how thought can create matter". Think back and come up with about 3 examples where your thoughts created physical reality in your life. Write them down and then ask yourself: Did you expect those manifestations of your thoughts? How did you feel when they manifested themselves in physical reality? Do you think you could *use* this process more consciously -- and how would you do that?
We will also do the second part of the "CWG quiz" which was much fun the last time :-)
Assignment: We discussed the concepts of need, desire, and expectations in the last meeting. Try to remember one or two experiences in your life where either of these concepts played an important role (e.g., you had certain expectations about something and they were not met). Reflect on what happened and figure out if you would choose differently in a similar situation the next time. Another question would be: What does it mean to have desires instead of needs?
