2026 - 2027 Season

Schedule of Team Contests

Sep 6/7 (7 is holiday): online contest 1
Sep 12/13: online contest 2 (possibly synchronized in a lab)
Sep 19/20: online contest 3 (possibly synchronized in a lab)
(early October): maybe more team selection contests if there is a slot issue
mid November: NAEAST26

Note that due to persistent issues with NAEAST problems/judging/proctoring since its start in 2022, and the 1 slot qualification structure, very few teams will be sent to it. However, it's possible to participate in other regionals as guests, as long as they have space, and are outside of North America. These however involve significant logistical planning, so a tentative bar for sending a team is consistent virtual contest performances according to ICPC rules (1 machine, no LLMs) within top quarter of the ranklist, AND the regional is sufficiently difficult that one of Richard/skittles1421/DCX/YJZ cannot do so solo in 3 hours.

You can register either individually or as a team by email to Richard at yangp@cs.cmu.edu.
For every contest that your team participates in, email a contest/submission log to Richard. Clearly indicate the number of machines and LLM tools used.

Updates

Feb 21: due to developments in this year's OI scene, as well as recent incidents in CCC/CCO involving ICPC contestants from CMU, Richard is running some in-person trainings geared toward those participants:
- Format is 2 * 4h IOI-style contests on weekends (Sat afternoon + Sun morning), about once every 3-4 weeks starting Mar 14/15.
- Out-of-town participants need to arrange their own travel/lodging. There are efforts in the works for reimbursing some of these costs.
- Help from local PhD students (problems/discussions/proctoring/general talks) would be greatly appreciated.
- ugrad/MS students are welcome to join all these activities, detailed schedule will be posted by early March.

Nov 2: the team of subs (CMU-Team 06) has been finalized to Haoyang Chen, Rafael Soares, Kijun Shin.
Oct 26: the designated competitive team (CMU-Team 07) is LSY, SNZ, and JY. Subs will be contacted over the next few days.
Oct 15 (after discussions with colleagues, taking results til now into account):
- Teams to regionals are in same format as last year (one + sub teams):
  - one designated competitive team, that can be self-formed,
  - plus one team of subs to account for WF-related uncertainties.
- The designated team will be picked based on results of the selection contests, plus discretion by Richard.
- The sub team of 3 will be decided individually, per discussions with Richard and Danny.

Participating

Plan is to decide teams using a combination of UCup results and 0-3 additional practices. Due to our regional contest being inconsistent yet highly selective, only teams with near-top performances in selections will go to regionals.

Regional Contest (NAEAST/ECNA) 2024

Participating

In light of NAEAST23 results and difficulties in asking for a more approachable contest from the problem setters, my priority this season will be maximizing the performance of top team at NAEAST24. I'm intending the weekly online UCup contests to replace the `show up and do problems' activity role. There have been a lot of changes in both the enviroment of ICPC and broader programming competitions. There is an ongoing effort in compiling documents that summarize how we got to this point. Richard will decide on teams to attend NAEAST based on UCup results ~~as well as additional simulated contests of past ECNAs and NENAs, as well as transportation capacity~~.

Sunday Nov 10, 2024: regional contest at Youngstown, OH (scoreboard).
Oct 27: due to requests for ICPC tourism ~~by Danny~~ and uncertainties with ICPC logistics, one additional team (CMU NewRulePlusJobbers, TDraper, PB, APun) is also going to the regional contest.
Oct 13: due to the UCup results being sufficiently skewed (consistent ≥3 problems difference), only one team (CMU NewGamePlusPlayers, FYS, XYX, YJZ) is going to the regional contest.
