| Notes | The Escort Battleship class has been
designed to allow smaller members of the Alliance — who either cannot
afford to purchase DNs and SDs or are unable to crew them out of their local
populations — to field ships which can stand in the Wall of Battle,
albeit in a supporting role. The ship can augment the Wall’s firepower to
a small degree out of its onboard launchers, but is of much greater service
in its ability to tow fifteen 10-tube missile pods inside its impeller wedge
and to provide fire control for a total of 75 pods — its own and up
to 60 pods deployed by DNPs and SDPs in the Wall. The primary function of the Escort Battleship is to increase the antimissile defensive fire of the Wall against PN pod salvos with its large numbers of point defense lasers and countermissile launchers (almost double the number mounted by the Honor Harrington class SDP). Its own passive defenses (armor, sidewalls, and radiation and particle shielding) are equal to those of an RMN Manticore-class SD to help it survive the fire of opposing Walls, and simulation studies indicate that it is more than a match for the PN’s Triumphant-class BB in a one-on-one engagement.
