The purpose of this message is to give you a sample of the true data from the book 'What is Scientology?' and show you where you can look to get the full contents of this book. ------------- The Way to Happiness is reaching into the hearts of our cities, where gang violence and street warfare have become a way of life. The simple reading of this book to hundreds of gang members has actually brought reform. In Los Angeles, for example, after hard-core gang members read (or were read to, in some cases) The Way to Happiness, they voluntarily removed graffiti from 130 buildings in their neighborhood, while passing out hundreds of copies of the booklets to neighbors. Many concerned citizens use The Way to Happiness to bring their communities together. Such was the case during and after the 1992 Los Angeles riots. The Way to Happiness Foundation volunteers passed out hundreds of thousands of copies throughout the city while assisting on food drives and cleanup actions. Said one south central Los Angeles community leader who heads an organization called Parents of Watts: "We've been giving out this book now for about two or three months. Nothing different has come into the community except this particular book-and we do see a change and we have to relate it to The Way to Happiness." Many other campaigns have been sponsored around the world. In the South African township of Soweto, a campaign based on the precept "Safeguard and Improve Your Environment" was supported by the largest food chain in the country and two major labor unions. Still another campaign in the South African city of Pietermaritzburg was highly successful in easing racial tensions. Also in South Africa, in 1992, the South African police requested 114,000 copies of The Way to Happiness booklet-one for every policeman in the country. Children and teenagers all over the world regularly participate in community cleanups based on the precept, "Safeguard and Improve Your Environment.'' The Youth Service Bureau, a national organization founded to prevent delinquency and divert youth from the criminal justice system, is one of many groups that distributes The Way to Happiness. Its executive director, who uses the book with the bureau's youth counselors, reported: "Our youthful clients lack a set of principles by which they can live a successful, happy life. The Way to Happiness certainly focuses on 21 positive principles which, if applied, would lead to a happy and successful life, rather than a life of drugs, crime and welfare.'' On a similar note, a Girl Scout official wrote, "Thank you for sending the booklets and thank Mr. Hubbard for writing it. I only wish it could be distributed to every family in the country. The positive impact it could have (if ideally everyone used it) is mind- boggling. You can be sure that the people we distribute it to will put it to wise and frequent use!'' Throughout the United States, tens of thousands of corporate executives, professionals and travelers read copies of The Way to Happiness, compliments of hotels that provide the booklet in their guest rooms. Upon ordering a stock of books for his guests, one Hilton Hotel manager remarked, "It is obvious that the morals and integrity of a large portion of our population are lacking today. Your book says it simply, as it should be, and hopefully will play on the conscience of many people to realize the need to adjust their lifestyles for a more healthy and vital environment, not only for themselves but for everyone around them.''
