Understanding "What Is Scientology?"
Chapter 21: Scientology Around the World
Texts
There does not appear to be a complete, integrated version of
the "Scientology Around the World" chapter on-line as it
appears in the 1992 print edition. The on-line edition
appears to have rewritten most of the 1992 sections and placed
them, along with other materials, in a section
called "What is the Church of Scientology?"
However, some of the 1992 print edition is on the site, and
there appear to be texts either matching or corresponding to
the sections in the 1992 print version. They can be reached
through the following links:
- Introductory section on ecclesiastical structure: A rewrite is on the official Scientology[tm] site.
- Field Auditors and Dianetics Counseling Groups: A rewrite, with more
emphasis on the International Hubbard Ecclesiastical League of Pastors,
is on the
official Scientology[tm] site.
- Scientology Missions: A rewrite is on the
official Scientology[tm] site.
- Class V Organizations: A rewrite is on the
official Scientology[tm] site.
- Celebrity Centres: The 1992 text is official Scientology[tm] site.
If you follow the "Ecclesiastical Structure" thread above, though,
you'll come to
another version, also on the site.
- Saint Hill Organizations: The 1992 text does not appear to be on-line,
The official Scientology[tm] site has a rewrite that discusses
both the Saint Hills and the Advanced Organizations.
It was also posted as
part of the ARSBOMB spam.
- Advanced Organizations: See above.
- Flag Service Organization: The 1992 text is on the official Scientology[tm] site.
If you follow the "Ecclesiastical Structure" thread above, though,
you'll come to
another version, also on the site.
- Flag Ship Service Organization: From the official Scientology[tm] site.
(The 1992 print edition only contained the first paragraph,
starting with "Whereas...")
There's also
another version that you'll come to if you follow the "Ecclesiastical Structure" thread.
- The Church of Scientology International: A rewrite of this
section (significantly expanded) is at
the official
Scientology[tm] site.
- Religious Technology Center: A rewrite is on ths
official Scientology[tm] site. The new version includes a summary of
a project to republish "pure unadulterated writings of Mr. Hubbard".
- Scientology Staff Members: A rewrite is on the
official Scientology[tm] site.
It was also posted as
part of the ARSBOMB spam.
- Cooperation and Expansion: The 1992 version had 3 paragraphs at the
end of the chapter stressing the "rapid growth" rate of Scientology
and how it has "dramatically increased". This section, like
the book's former subtitle claiming to be
"the world's fastest growing religion", seems to be absent from
the on-line version.
