We are building a new team at Carnegie Mellon University across the Machine Learning Department and the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy focused on using Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Science (and other buzzwords) to have a positive impact on society.
Our interdisciplinary group works at the intersection of research, practice, and education to improve society and public policy in close collaboration with local, national, and international governments and non-profits.
Our research is aimed at ensuring that AI and ML systems for social good and policy problems achieve the outcomes they were intended for, with a focus on interpretablity/explainability and bias/fairness/equity. We motivate and apply our research to projects in public health, criminal justice, education, workforce development, economic development, and other areas in close collaboration with governments and NGOs.
Help create overall program strategy, build and maintain programs and partnerships with governments and non-profits, and manage collaborative projects.
Ideal candidates will have experience working with governments and/or non-profits, leading/managing teams, and familiarity with data analytics
Lead research efforts at the intersection of machine learning and social science/public policy, help run educational/training programs, and lead applied projects with governments and non-profits.
Ideal candidates have a PhD and 3+ years of industry experience related to AI/ML/Data Science
Help lead educational/training programs, work on applied research projects and perform research in machine learning focused on problems in social science and public policy.
Ideal candidates have a recent PhD in a data science related field including CS, Stats, Quantitative Social Sciences
Help build open source data and computational infrastructure and machine learning software for our teaching and applied projects with government agencies and non-profits.
Ideal candidates have a strong Python background and expertise in managing databases and cloud computing platforms
