Music Box

Sketch of Music Box

This toy is a music box. It works on the principle of air vibrations causing sound. As you turn the handle connected to the gear, the gear starts to rotate. The rotating gear reduces the speed of the larger gear. The larger gear is attached to a metal cylinder with has small thorn-like projections randomly all over the cylinder. Attached to the cylinder is a metal plate which has thin strips on it with no gaps between them. As the cylinder rotates the strips rub against the projections causing sound. The cylinder should rotate very slowly because the music will only be different only up to one rotation. Kids always find music very interesting. Also since the music plays very slowly it proves to be a stress reliever. This could actually suit people of any age group.

This could actually be a little expensive as it is all metals which are actually heavy. I would estimate the cost to be about $20. It is durable as it is not something that will easily break on being thrown. Safety is also not much of an issue other than the gear teeth which could be a little sharp.
